Well day 1 is drawing to a close, safely arrived in Holt after riding 65 miles today and definitely feeling it!
The route wasnt too bad, Reading to Newbury was nice except for the rain, which eased off around 10.30. My brake incident was resolved - going over a pot hole to fast caused the wheel to slip, which was making it rub against the brake pad. All sorted now though.
Newbury to Marlborough was going pretty well until we hit the hills just outside Marlborough - 1 in 10 gradients for a couple of miles really wasnt fun. Going down the other side was fun though! Nice lunch in Marlborough - where the sun was finally out, and the added entertainment of watching the staff throw our curries over half the pub.
The theory was then that we had a nice easy 20 miles, mainly downhill, to Holt. Hmm. The mainly downhill part was a little bit wrong - round about Avebury they got nasty, and it turned out that actually, Marlborough to Holt was mainly uphill!
All good fun, legs aching a bit, but nothing too major (i hope), and fingers crossed a nice sleep will sort it out.
Tomorrow we head from Holt to Glastonbury for lunch, and then on to Taunton for the evening.
